I'm alright now

The door swung open but swung too wide
A painted canvas on the outside of my mind
And I was thinking in terms of my
Tired eyes, weary soul and mangled mind
But I'm alright now
I'm alright
I'd do alright as a mannequin
Standing tall till I fall to someone's hand
And when I fell oh how I ran
I packed my case to some new place to some new land
Now it's time to feed the wolves and let em go
Let em go back home to where they came from
It's time to plant our trees in golden soil and sun
And soon enough we'll get to see that garden shine
I'm bruised and broken but I'll still walk
Walkin on crutches never stopped anybody from opening up their eyes
And I know it's repetition and it's slow
But everyone knows that it takes a few goes before it sticks into your mind

One day soon
04:52
|
|

Now I have the time to sit and watch my days roll by
I feel like I can finally call it mine
And when I taste the morning light I feel it in my heart
And like the mist my woes will soon depart
I step out through the old back door
It creeks of memories past
I turn to see the wattle bloom at last
And though my time has come and gone I won't have no regrets
I'll sing as I prune back the hedge instead
All my life I've been chasing you
And all I know is that it was worth it to
There's something more than all the things we do
I know you'll find it out one day soon
I take a breath and stare into the hands that raised this land
The hands that raise my boy to be a man
And my ears hear the sound so sweet that calls me back inside
For sixty years she's never left my side
And all these thoughts pass through my mind
Of all that's good to taste and age old wine
These things and so much more I'm sure I'll find
In that big old homestead in the sky

John Hill

The pirate John Hill was his name
He had a heart of coal
His ship was filled with gold
How much no one will know
He sailed round from Cuba to Spain
His trusty men right by his side
When you hear John Hill's horns ring
You'd be best to run and hide
John Hill is comin' back
And he'll never stop till he has won
This firefight has gone on far too long
It's time to grab our guns and run
They say that he'll cause quite a scene
If he comes down to your town
He'll try to steal your kings only crown
And even his sleeping gown!
His trusty men will yell and cheer for him
When he boasts and says that you are done
They'll graffiti your castles just for fun
But your heart has not been won
Now that you know his name very well
You'd do well to hold your ground
Hold up and wait for the signs
Listen sharp for the sound
For it's easy to know when he comes
His band plays loud behind
They shower John Hill with a song
Vindicate his stolen mind
One day John Hill's men they cracked
Refused to stay and fight
They shot poor John Hill in the back
And no, he did not cry
They say although he's wounded and shot down
John Hill still roams from town to town
You'll know it's him you'll know he's still around
You'll hear him sing and his trumpet sound

Canvas
03:55

I saw a canvas stood white
Stood tall in a room void of light
And I've been waiting so long
I'd almost lost hope
The colours of your heart
Held back and waiting to start
A fire in this room
You'll let it out soon
This year snuck up so fast
But we won't be slaves to our past
And I know we're both well aware
The canvas is still there
You gathered all your silver keys
And set sail for the seven seas
And you sent a message to me
That one day we'll see
And when the time comes
You'll give all that you got and stand tall
You'll rise like the morning sun darling
And light up that canvas on fire
So do what you're doing my darling
And know that you know who you are
Love isn't something we're chasing
But something that shows who we are
